Underwriting Associate

DEPARTMENT: Underwriting
REPORTS TO: Underwriting Supervisor as Assigned
LOCATION: Little Rock, AR Office

REQUIREMENTS:
  • College degree, Insurance designation, or experience in the workers compensation field.
  • Technical knowledge of workers' compensation policy contracts.
  • Ability to effectively communicate and build relationships with independent agencies.
  • Ability to reach effective decisions within a given authority level.
  • Working knowledge of computer programs such as Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook.

JOB SUMMARY:
  • Analyze existing workers' compensation business, either due to contract change requests or renewals to determine acceptability and pricing within granted authority.
  • Handle underwriting and processing of all transactions as required.
  • Ability to work within company guidelines and individual underwriting authority.
  • Possess adequate knowledge of the Company's capabilities, services and competitive advantages.
  • Understanding of the Insurance business environment
  • Maintain work within company service standards.
  • Responsibility for a book of renewal business including the business's overall acceptability, performance, pricing and retention.
  • Monitor results along with team members and produce Company reports as directed by management.
  • Participate and contribute as needed to achieve desired results.

SKILL AND ABILITY PROFILE:
This individual will possess excellent analytical skill, a competent level of workers’ compensation coverage knowledge, demonstrate good judgment and be able to support decisions made. Results oriented with the ability to review and direct to achieve desired results, while maintaining good relationships with agents. Good communication skills, both oral and written, effective negotiation skills, and the ability to research and gather all necessary data to make informed decisions are essential. Basic mathematical skill is required, and the ability to produce reports as needed. A desire to further career in insurance through continuing education is desired.
