Claims Assistant

DEPARTMENT: CLAIMS
REPORTS TO: UNIT SUPERVISOR
STATUS: NON-EXEMPT
HOURS: M-F 9a-6p

REQUIREMENTS:
  • High school diploma required, college preferred
  • Detail oriented, organized self-starter with a desire for career development within the insurance industry
  • 1-2 year(s) relevant claims processing experience in the Workers' Compensation field
  • Computer literacy; familiarity with Microsoft Office necessary; Imaging systems are a plus.
  • This individual will adhere to the code of ethical conduct and is required to engage in Fair Claims Settlement practice

JOB SUMMARY:
Independently process new claims and provide administrative support services for a designated Claims Unit, handling multi-state Worker's Compensation claims. General knowledge of local jurisdictional law is required and as it pertains to State form filing. New loss set-up, assignment, understanding coverages, and customer service is required. Support functions will include, but not be limited to, telephone answering, conducting telephone surveys, telephonic loss intake, handling central index bureau requests, scheduling IMEs for the file handler, photocopying, mail opening/indexing, bill review batching, bill data entry, policy data entry, legal data entry, account/contact data entry, check distribution, updating DCI system fields, record subpoena, medical deductible billing, time and expense billing, investigation referral assignment, category reserve changes, providing notice to underwriting, check voids, stop payment requests, handling of claim archives, loss run distribution, file closing, and all other duties as assigned. Documentation of claim file activities is required. A full time Claims Assistant will support no more than (5) full time employees in a Claims Unit.
